Dr. Elizabeth Murray is a forensic anthropologist and professor of biology at the College of Mount St. Joseph, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She is one of only approximately 60 practicing board-certified forensic anthropologists in North America. Dr. Murray has worked as a forensic examiner and anthropologist in well over 100 cases of skeletal identification since 1986. She has consulted on dozens of criminal investigations and has testified as an expert witness in such matters. Dr. Murray’s experience encompasses field investigation and recovery, as well as laboratory and radiographic analysis of skeletonized, partially decomposed, fragmentary, dismembered, and burned human remains.
With a career in academia that spans over two decades, Dr. Murray’s primary teaching is in the areas of human gross anatomy, anatomy and physiology, comparative vertebrate anatomy, general biology and forensic science. She provides educational seminars and workshops in forensic anthropology for pathologists, law enforcement officers, coroners and crime scene investigators.

In addition to her lectures, Dr. Murray has presented numerous professional papers within her field, most notably at scientific sessions of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. As a published author, she has contributed chapters to several books and is currently involved in several writing projects. Dr. Murray served as scientific consultant and on-camera personality for the four-part miniseries “Skeleton Crew” (aired internationally as “Buried Secrets”) produced for the National Geographic Channel by New Dominion Pictures. She was also a regular cast member on the series “Skeleton Stories” produced for the Discovery Health Channel by Atlas Media, Corp.
Dr. Murray has achieved the rank of Fellow in the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS). She has served that organization’s Physical Anthropology Section as Chair, Secretary, and twice functioned as the section’s Program Chair for the Scientific Session of the AAFS annual meeting. She is currently a member of the American Academy of Forensic Science’s Long Term Planning Committee. Dr. Murray is also the current Secretary of the American Board of Forensic Anthropology (ABFA) and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Forensic Sciences Foundation (FSF). Dr. Murray volunteers her time as the Forensic Anthropology Consultant on the “Ask the Experts” Panel of the national organization Parents of Murdered Children, Inc. She is also on the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport’s Mass Disaster Committee.
