Graphic
Design is a profession of visual communication that combines images, words
and ideas to purposefully convey information to a specific audience.
Course Objectives
This beginning class of the graphic design program will review your acquired
skills
gained in previous classes. Fundamental design aesthetics will be applied in
all the communication projects. Students will learn to appreciate good
design, and recognize
poor design.
Learning Outcomes
1. to promote critical thinking in simple visual communication projects
designed to be the
base foundation study for learning the design process, which will be applied to
all of the following sequences of MSJ graphics classes
2. to develop rational creative thought which involves skills in perception and
correct aesthetic decision making and problem solving skills
3. to speak effectively about their design projects during the weekly class
critiques, as
well as answer questions pertaining to their visual solutions
Class Procedure
Each studentÕs work will be displayed at the beginning of every class meeting,
utilizing
the critique method of teaching. Class discussion at this time is essential.
All work on the assigned problems will begin in the classroom, with the
guidance of
the instructor.
Additional time required outside of class will average at least six hours
weekly.
No make-up or extra credit work will be accepted.
If a student is absent from class, that student should not attempt to complete
the assignment he/she was not present to receive. Come to class the following
week, ready
to begin work on the current assignment.
GRADES will be earned only by the work presented at the scheduled critique.
Requirements
Regular class attendance, as this is a studio course of your chosen major, and
meets
only once a week.
Each project builds on and relates to the previous assignment, therefore
participation
and representation in the weekly critiques is critical.
