SEE-la-kanth – “Hollow spine”
This as yet unnamed coelacanth dates from the Middle Triassic (220 million years ago) of Nevada. Collected by a Cincinnati Museum Center expedition sponsored by the National Geographic Society, this unique lobe-fin fish specimen is the largest Triassic coelacanth known. It is awaiting a formal scientific description.
