Cladoselache

KLAD-o-sell-A-key – “Branch shark”

 

Cladoselache dates from the Late Devonian (365 million years ago) of northern Ohio. This animal is among the earliest sharks known and belongs to a group called the cladodonts (“branched tooth”), from which its name is derived. Each of its hundreds of small teeth possess three sharp cusps.
