3 Credit Hours
Introduction to the elements and principles of two-dimensional
design; creative problem solving using a variety of tools, materials and
approaches. Emphasis on the use of collage with paper and found
material.
In-depth experience with color; color and light;
color theory, properties, wheel, perception, mixed interaction, usage,
references. Theories in this course are taken from many sources, but rely
heavily on the work of Joseph Albers.
ART253: Illustration:
Computer
An introduction to the theory and practice of computer illustration. Includes exploration in creating imagery using the Macintosh computer, starting with exercises to learn Adobe Illustrator software and advancing to varied illustration projects.
This course helps senior Art students prepare for graduation
and their professional careers. Activities include developing their graduation
resume and cover letter, discussing portfolio options, and working with
multiple discipline Art majors in developing marketing and signage for the
Senior Art Thesis exhibit.
Advanced graphic design
principles are explored through design projects with emphasis on research and
type-image interactions. Class work for the semester is based upon a theme
chosen by the graphic design faculty with a focus chosen by each student.
Semester work includes preparation work for thesis study.
In-depth supervised study and research in graphic
design resulting in a thesis exhibit. Incorporates all graphic design
principles from previous courses. The thesis theme is an evolution of the
student’s previous semester work in Graphic Design V developed by the student
with instructor approval.
