I currently have several research projects in various stages of completion: For my first few years at the College of Mount Saint Joseph, I collected data with a diverse sample of older adults, examining their ability to remember material presented either as words or images. This project has resulted in several conference presentations, and I am currently working on a manuscript of this project which I hope to publish soon. While conducting the image/word project, I became interested in the ways in which discussion or collaboration influences memory. As a result, I began collecting data in the spring of 2000 and we have been coding and analyzing this data set ever since. People participated in pairs and recalled one story together, while recalling another story individually (each in a separate room, speaking into a tape recorder). To date, we have analyzed the amount of information recalled, and we are currently coding the process of collaboration. I have presented several aspects of this project as the data have become available, and I hope to complete coding this semester. In addition to memory, I am also interested in the relationship between psychology and the legal system, and I collaborate with Georgana Taggart, the director of our Paralegal Studies program. We recently published our joint efforts to evaluate the effectiveness of online course delivery methods in Paralegal education, and we are currently working on a review of the literature on the use of memory in the courts. |
