Course One

Nursing 315:   Nursing and the Professional Role (3 credits)  NUR 315 is designed to facilitate the transition of the registered nurse to the role of registered nurse student seeking the Bachelor of Science in nursing degree.  Course content focuses on the development of professional nursing in the United States.  The student's personal and professional philosophy and roles are explored in relationship to the image of nursing.  Nursing process and the epidemiological process are taught as two approaches that guide nursing practice.

Course Two

Nursing 331:  Parish Nursing  I (2 credits or 18 CEU)  NUR 331 This course presents an overview of parish nursing/health ministries practice with an emphasis on defining holistic health within a faith community.  Students will learn how to collaborate with others to plan and implement a health promotion program.

Nursing 332:  Parish Nursing Practicum (1 credit)  In NUR 332 the student will spend approximately 45 hours working on clinical projects related to parish nursing practice.  This course focuses on the promotion of health and healing  within the context of of the values, beliefs, and practices of a faith community and the community it serves.  Preceptors for this clinical experience may include parish nurses, pastors, chaplains, and lay ministers.

Nursing 333:  Parish Nursing II  (2 credits or 18 CEU)  In NUR 333 , students will use a systematic process to collaborate with others to promote health and healing for individuals and families within a faith community.  The development of health programs, support groups, and strategies to empower parishioners will be explored.

Nursing 334:  Clinical Applications for Parish Nursing II (1 credit) In NUR 334 the student will spend approximately 45 hours working on clinical projects related to parish nursing practice.  The course will focus on the development of programs to promote health and healing within the context of the values, beliefs, and practices of a faith community and the community it serves.  Students will work with parish nurses, pastors, chaplains, and lay ministers.

Course Three

IDS 307:  Healthy Communities:  Interdisciplinary Approaches (3 credits)   This course examines the practice of interdisciplinary health teams with the goal of facilitating the development of healthy individuals. families, communities, and populations.  Emphasis is on applying theory and models to assess community-identified capacities and needs.  Diversity of individuals and communities is explained using interactive learning strategies, thus supporting the development of partnerships among the professionals and the citizens of the community.
