HOW DO I KNOW WHO MY ADVISOR IS?
- Students are assigned to a faculty advisor in their declared major. If you have not yet been assigned to an advisor, contact the academic department of your major.
- If a traditional student has not declared a major, the student is assigned to an advisor in the Academic Exploration Program.
- If an adult or non-traditional student has not declared a major, the student is assigned to the Advising Resource Coordinator in the Registrar’s Office.
Traditional students and some adult students in specific majors (nursing, education, social work, chemistry, biology, rehabilitation science, and physical therapy) are required to have their advisor’s approval for Web registration and on all add/drops to a student’s original schedule.
HOW OFTEN DO I MEET WITH MY ADVISOR?
It is recommended that students meet with their advisors at least two times each semester to ensure success in fostering intellectual and personal development toward academic success, choosing a career path, and cultivating life long learning and skills. In the interest of quality service to our students, all advising should be done on an appointment basis. Appointments are scheduled duirng advising season.
WHAT DO I DO TO HELP THE ADVISING PROCESS?
- To help you plan your schedule, a registration worksheet can be found on the last page of the printed course schedule. You should complete this worksheet and take it with you to your advising appointments. It is also a good idea to have a list of alternate classes, in case your first choices are closed, at the advising appointment. You are responsible for scheduling the appointments with your advisor.
- Double check with your advisor to ensure he/she has cleared you on the Web and given any necessary course authorizations so you are able to Web register on your designated registration day.
- You are responsible for knowing your degree requirements for your major and the requirements of the Core Curriculum, including pre-requisite courses. These requirements are listed in the catalog.
- The most important thing you can do to help the advising process is ask questions and voice concerns. Advisors are aware of the resources on campus, and if the advisor is unable to help you, he/she can refer you to the appropriate person or office.
WHAT IF I HAVE TRANSFER CREDITS?
You can obtain information regarding the transfer of credits from other institutions by calling the Registrar’s Office at (513) 244-4621.
